This new University of Michigan CME event will seek to identify some of the unique challenges women in academic medicine face with regard to professional advancement and success, to equip attendees with the ability to serve as effective allies and champions for women in medicine, to facilitate skill development in areas such as leadership, negotiation, and self-promotion, and provide opportunities for networking and community building. At the end of this activity, participants will be able to develop and utilize communication goals and values as part of creating an effective leadership journey.
Course Objectives
- identify organizational strategies to reduce gender disparities in work-family conflict, mental health, and career outcomes among physicians.
- differentiate why, how, and what to negotiate when approaching a new role or position in your career.
- understand communication goals and values as part of your leadership journey.
- identify barriers women face in careers in academic medicine and describe a systems-based solution to those barriers.
- develop effective advocacy and self-promotion by showcasing skills you may not have a title for.
