Maggie Carey, BS, MPH
PO Admin, CIPA
I joined the committee to advocate for pediatric practices within value-based care and to collaborate with the great team that makes up INHALE. I have a strong passion for pediatrics and enjoy promoting educational materials that support comprehensive care for children throughout Michigan.
Toby Lewis, MD, MPH
Pediatric Pulmonologist, UMHS Pediatric Pulmonology
As a pediatric pulmonologist dedicated to improving health for kids with asthma, I’m excited to be part of INHALE’s team focused on the unique needs of children. Working with colleagues from across the state on the issues and challenges of pediatric asthma practice gives me an opportunity to make a difference beyond my individual patients.
Sara Laule, MD
Physician, East Ann Arbor Pediatrics
I joined the Pediatric Asthma Subcommittee to help so that kids with asthma can reach their fullest potential and never feel slowed down.
Jeannette Marchand Mateyak, MD
Physician, Northpointe Pediatrics, PC
In the past, I have seen many children with asthma withdraw from sports and physical activity due to uncontrolled asthma symptoms. I have seen children have asthma attacks at the least convenient time causing them to miss important school and family events and holidays. I would like to help families learn to recognize asthma symptoms and control the asthma so that asthma or asthma attacks don’t interfere with a child’s fun, sleep, education, and daily routine.
Andrea McCaig, BSN, RN
Nurse, UMHS Pediatric Pulmonology
As a pediatric pulmonary nurse and clinical care coordinator for our severe asthma programs at Mott Children’s Hospital, I joined the pediatric committee with INHALE to not only gain knowledge and insight into new practices or discrepancies among patient care for pediatric asthma patients across Michigan but to also bring those experiences back to Michigan Medicine to help our patients, their families and our programs.
Sharon McManus, DO
Pediatrician, Pediatric Healthcare PLLC
Dr. McManus has over 20 years of medical student and resident education. She is excited about outpatient best practice protocols. For the benefit of our practice and for the Corewell East pediatric community, she is interested in helping disperse the information and aiding independent provider in establishing care pathways. As an experienced pediatrician, she has the clinical abilities and connections to disseminate resources.
Fareeha Naz, MD
Pediatrican, icare Pediatrics
Dr. Fareeha Naz, MD is a board-certified pediatrician and Pediatric Hospital Medicine Specialist with over 20 years of experience. She previously served as a pediatric hospitalist at Sparrow/MSU, where she mentored pediatric residents, and held the role of Pediatric Department Chair before transitioning to outpatient care.
In 2023, she transitioned to private practice, focusing on preventive care, behavioral health, and autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Naz has a strong interest in asthma care and chronic disease prevention and is an approved participant in the INHALE program, where she looks forward to supporting improved asthma outcomes through education, early intervention, and family-centered care.
Gayatri Shanker, MD, FAAP, MS
Co-chair, Caring Pediatric Partners, Pediatrician
Asthma is the leading cause of childhood morbidity from chronic disease, affecting 8-10% of children in the USA. It is associated with frequent school absences, emergency department visits, and hospitalizations, significantly impairing a child’s quality of life and educational outcomes. I am honored to serve on the INHALE Pediatric Subcommittee, where we collaborate with peers to develop clinical algorithms and best practices. Our goal is to educate physicians and patients to improve asthma control in children. Having the expertise and guidance of pulmonologists like Dr. Lugogo and Dr. Lewis on the committee makes this group effort very successful.
Karla Stoermer Grossman, MSA, BSN, RN, AE-C

As the Clinical Site Coordinator for INHALE, she partners closely with participating providers and physician organizations to strengthen patient outcomes through guideline-based care. She is committed to bringing her extensive clinical expertise to the Pediatric Advisory Board, helping shape meaningful, actionable patient education—and ensuring that the voices and experiences of patients and families are carried back to the providers who serve them.

Nurse & Asthma Educator, Cascade Pediatrics, LLP
Sheri received her LPN degree in 1997 and has worked in pediatric primary care her entire nursing career. She became a Certified Asthma Educator through the National Asthma Education Certification Board in 2013. In 2016, Sheri received her care management certification through the MI Center in Clinical Systems Improvement (MICCSI). She has a passion for educating patients on self-management of their asthma symptoms as well as monitoring their progress. Sheri joined the INHALE Pediatric Subcommittee in 2025 to advocate on patient’s behalf for affordable medications and accessible knowledge for asthma maintenance and improving health outcomes
Timothy White, MD
Pediatrician, Cereal City Pediatrics
I think the work the INHALE CQI is doing is amazing. I enjoy the collaboration of the pediatric committee in shaping a CQI so it’s evidence based and meaningfully improves patient care in a way that pediatricians can accomplish.
